Direct air service has been resumed between Georgia and Russia after a six-year break.

Aircraft of the Aeroflot airline will carry out direct flights on the Moscow-Tbilisi route on a daily basis.

The regular air service between Russia and Georgia was suspended in August 2008.

The charter flights between the two countries were resumed by Siberia Airlines, Ural Airlines of Russia and Georgian Airways in 2010.

Earlier, the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia announced that several Russian companies have got permission to resume regular flights on the Moscow-Tbilisi-Moscow route, citing a note from Georgian Foreign Ministry.

The following companies got permission to carry out flights on this route: 'Aeroflot', 'VIM Airlines', 'Globus', 'Siberia', 'Transaero', 'Ural Airlines' and 'UTair'.
