Gudauri hosts skiing competition for diplomats

Georgia’s mountain resort of Gudauri has hosted a skiing competition involving the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, Agenda reports.

The winners of the tournament have been revealed in various categories.

The winner of nomination of foreign female diplomats went to Barbara Kohler the wife of the Swiss Ambassador to Georgia came in first.

The winner of the men's competition was the Head of European Union (EU) Delegation's Justice Programme Manager Peter Danis.

Ekaterine Alania from the Georgian National Tourism Administration came in first in the state agencies women’s competition while Vasil Kvantaliani from the Georgian Foreign Ministry came in first in the men’s competition.

Addressing the participants of the DipSki2018 tournament earlier today, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze spoke about the country’s tourism potential and the state strategy for developing the country’s ski resorts.

Janelidze said significant steps have been made for improving the infrastructure of the winter resorts last year and the number of visitors is increasing, as Georgia is now offering them the world-level recreational and entertaining areas.

Wishing success to the Georgian athletes participating in the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea, Janelidze hoped Georgia will also host the World Skiing and Snowboard Freestyle Championship in 2023 and the winter Olympics in 2030.

Together with diplomats, members of the government of Georgia and officials of the Foreign Ministry took part in the competition aimed at promoting Georgia as an important ski destination and ensuring trips to Georgia’s ski resorts.
