Georgia sees increase in number of payment transactions

The number of payment cards transactions in Georgia in January 2022 amounted to 42 million, which is an increase of 16.9 percent, compared to 35.9 million transactions over the same period of 2021, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

However, the same figure decreased by 13.9 percent, compared to 48.8 million transactions in December 2021, the report said.

The value of total payment cards transactions in Georgia in the reporting period of 2022 totaled 3.6 million Georgian lari ($1.1 million), which is an increase of 28.5 percent, compared to 2.8 million Georgian lari ($903,225) over the same month of 2021. However, the same figure decreased by 23.4 percent, compared to 4.7 million Georgian lari ($1.5 million) in December 2021.

Meanwhile, the number of payment cards transactions within Georgia in January 2022 amounted to 38.8 million, while the value of transactions totaled 3.3 million Georgian lari ($1 million).

The number of payment cards transactions outside Georgia in the reporting period of 2022 amounted to 3.2 million, while the value of transactions totaled 284,386 Georgian lari ($91,737).
