Israel has not yet responded to a series of demands presented by Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to build confidence between the two sides, a Palestinian official said on Thursday.
Fayyad rose the demands during his meeting with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak in Jerusalem on Monday, Xinhua reported.
"So far, we haven't heard anything officially from Israel regarding their dealing with the Palestinian demands," said Ghassan al-Khatib, spokesman for the Palestinian government.
Israel has promised to study Fayyad's requests that involve lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip, stopping Israeli " provocations" in Jerusalem and army operations in the West Bank and releasing old prisoners, al-Khatib said.
As for Gaza, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) wanted Israel, which relaxed the blockade last month, to lift the closure completely in a way to secure the free movement of goods and individuals in and out of Gaza, according to the spokesman.
The PNA also wanted that settlement expansions in East Jerusalem be suspended in addition to halting Israeli army's house demolitions in Gaza, he added.
The PNA "is continuously working to get those demands met" through direct contacts with Israel or through indirect proximity talks that Washington sponsors between the two sides, al-Khatib said.
In May, the U.S. administration succeeded in brokering indirect talks between Israel and the Palestinians. The talks, which aim to reach a deal resolving border and security issues, are scheduled to last for four months. After that, the PNA will decide whether to shift face-to-face negotiations.
