Bombs kill nine, injure 24 in Iraq‎ (UPDATE)

Several bomb attacks in Iraq have killed nine people and wounded at least 24 others, including a young child, security officials say, Press TV reported.

In three different locations in northern Iraqi city of Mosul seven police officers and security guards were killed while on patrol and two others - a police officer and a child - were injured, Iraqi security officials said.

In the south Baghdad neighborhood of Dora, a roadside bomb killed a policeman and injured three of his colleagues, an interior ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

In the nearby district of Saidiyah, a magnetic "sticky bomb" attached to a car, killed one civilian and injured three others, the same official said.

And two roadside bombs near a mobile phone shop in the west Baghdad neighborhood of Ghazaliyah injured fourteen people, including eight of policemen.

US and Iraqi officials have warned of the dangers of an upsurge in violence as negotiations on forming a new governing coalition have dragged on, giving insurgent groups an opportunity to further destabilize the country.

Although over four months have passed since the March 7 general elections, in which no single bloc won an outright majority in the 325-member parliament, the two largest blocs - Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's State of Law coalition and former premier Iyad Allawi of the al-Iraqiya alliance are still bickering over who should be the next prime minister.
