Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has been admitted to a hospital in the Indian capital Delhi Monday after he complained of pain in one of his arms, his spokesman said.

The Dalai Lama, 73, is well and is expected to return home to the Indian hill town of Dharamsala on Tuesday, his spokesman Chhime Choekyapa said.

The Tibetan leader and his government-in-exile are based in Dharamsala, reported dpa.

"His holiness complained of a mild pain in his arm a few days ago and his doctors advised he should have a check-up as he is leaving for Europe on Sunday," Choekyapa said. "There is no cause for worry."

The Dalai Lama underwent surgery to remove a gallstone in October.

The Tibetan leader is scheduled to leave India on Sunday to visit Rome and Venice in Italy and Baden Baden in Germany where he will receive the German Media Prize.

The prize is annually awarded to personalities who have shown exceptional commitment and contributed to shaping a more peaceful and socially just world.

Former United States president Bill Clinton and U2 singer Bono are among former awardees.
