Former Iranian President and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the country Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani Accused President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of lying.

"If the criticism is directed against a single person, it can be forgiven. But if the criticism is directed against the Iranian revolution, its adherents and in general against the system of the Islamic Revolution, it is impossible to be silent, and it is necessary to provide correct information to prevent the spread of lies and slander," the ILNA news agency quoted Rafsanjani as saying.

On June 3, during debates with other presidential candidate Mir Hussein Mousavi Ahmadinejad raised allegations against the chairman of the Advisory Council of Iran. Ahmadinejad accused Rafsanjani of corruption and provocations directed against him on a live air of the PRESS TV and Channel 3.

In response Rafsanjani demanded to allocate air time on television for a debate with Ahmadinejad before the conclusion of the election campaign. Chairman of the National Iranian Television Izzatulla Zargami said that Rafsanjani will consider the claim after the election.
