Strong quake hits Japan's Hachijojima Island

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 rocked Japan's Hachijojima Island, some 280 km south of Tokyo, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Thursday, according to Xinhua.
   The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 7:49 a.m. Thursday local time (2249 GMT Wednesday), was located some 40 km under the sea off Hachijojima, said the agency.
   No tsunami warning was issued.
   The tremor was also felt in Tokyo as well as Fukushima, Chiba, Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures.
   There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties.
