Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is in Turkey, where he is scheduled to meet on Monday with President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, DPA reported.

Abbas arrived in Turkey on Sunday. He comes in the wake of last week's botched Israeli commando raid on a Turkish-led aid flotilla to Gaza, in which nine Turks died and dozens were injured.

The incident had led to severe tension between Turkey and Israel, once close allies.

"The Palestinian people were facing state terrorism when Israel attacked the Freedom Flotilla. The Palestinian people and the entire world are confronted with this terrorism," Abbas said after the Israeli raid.

The Palestinian leader is scheduled to go to Washington after his visit to Turkey, where he will meet with President Barack Obama.
