SOCAR: Work on elimination of accident at Bulla-Deniz directed to its rescue

All efforts on elimination of the accident at the Bulla-Deniz well are being directed towards its saving, SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) head Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists on Monday.

All efforts on elimination of the accident at the Bulla-Deniz well are being directed towards its saving, SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) head Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists on Monday.

According to him, in order to save the well, the State Oil Company turned to Halliburton which has extensive experience with flowing wells and now experts from this company are working within the prepared programme.

"Currently work is being carried out for clearing the area around the well, so that they can install the equipment necessary for commissioning it," Abdullayev stressed.

Regarding the assessment of the damage caused by the accident, Abdullayev said that estimates will be conducted after the completion of the work on elimination of the accident.

The fire engulfed exploration well No.90 in the north-east wing of Bulla-Deniz on August 17. The sea depth at the field is 26.5 metres.

According to SOCAR, ignition happened during drilling at a depth of 5868 metres.

An open gas blowout took place at 23:30 local time, August 17 which was followed by fire.

All 62 workers who were at the platform were evacuated to the shore, there were no casualties.
