Bahraini authorities announced Friday it will block and suspend websites showing the anti- Islam film that defames Prophet Mohammed, Xinhua reported.

The announcement by the Bahraini Interior Minister Lieutenant- General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa came hours after angry protesters took to the streets after the Friday prayers, expressing their anger against the film "Innocence of Muslims."

He also called on the Bahraini people not to contribute in spreading the film.

The anti-Islam film has angered Muslims all over the world and claimed the lives of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other diplomatic personnel. The U.S. mission in Cairo was also targeted by protesters.

Security has been beefed up around the U.S. embassy in Bahrain with armored vehicles deployed at main entrances.

The U.S. embassy had warned all its citizens to avoid mosques on Friday and steer clear of demonstrations, citing the development in the region over the past 72 hours.

It also said it was "carefully monitoring" the situation following attacks on U.S. missions in Egypt and Libya.

Bahrain's Foreign Affairs Ministry urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and all Islamic countries to act decisively against such "sedition-fueling practices."
