Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry: Armenia's position damages negotiation process

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 8 / Trend /

Political consultations between Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and France were held at Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the press service of the ministry told Trend on Saturday.

Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, the French delegation was lead by the Director of the Continental Europe Department at the French Foreign Ministry Eric Fournier.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of relations between Azerbaijan and France.

Recalling the visits of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijan's First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva to his country, the French diplomat noted that the visits made a positive contribution to the relations between the two countries.

Khalaf Khalafov welcomed the guests and highly estimated the visit of the French delegation to Azerbaijan.

Speaking on the current stability in the country and the successfully implemented reforms, Khalafov noted that the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is a threat to Azerbaijan and to the entire region. Khalafov said that Azerbaijan supports peaceful settlement of the conflict and the negotiations lasting for 20 years, have given no results.

The Deputy Minister also noted the fact that the Armenian government demonstrates non-constructive position, damaging the negotiation process.

It was stated that Armenia ignores resolutions and decisions adopted by international organizations and underlined that more pressure should be put on the country, so that it demonstrates a constructive approach.

Khalafov said that negotiations must be held not for the sake of negotiations, and brought to the attention of the French side that the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group should be directed to the liberation of the occupied territories, noting the necessity of taking serious steps.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on other regional issues and stressed the importance of increasing the number of mutual visits.
