Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend A.Gasimova / Yuriy Braznikov, the division head at the Russian emergency Ministry, arrived in Baku to assist in the rescue work at the scene of the recent collapse of a sixteen-storey building in Baku, the Russian Emergency Ministry relayed by telephone to Trend.
The Ministry said that Braznikov came with materials and proposals for further inspection of the remains of the under-construction building. "If Azerbaijan accepts Braznikov's proposals, Russia will dispatch to Azerbaijan all necessary equipment for inspecting new buildings," the Russian Ministry said.
The Russian Emergency Ministry is rendering Azerbaijan distance consultative aid.
A building at the crossroads of Nakhchivani and Mukhtarov Streets in Baku collapsed on 28 August. Initial accounts show that gross violations of construction safety rules caused the collapse of this building under construction by Mutaffakir company. Latest reports showed that the total number of victims has risen to twelve dead and five injured.
The Azerbaijan Emergency Situations Ministry and Executive Administration of Baku City have begun inspections of the three buildings constructed by the Mutaffakir company. They are situated at the intersection of Nakhchivan and Mukhtarov streets near to the collapsed building, the representative of the Executive Administration said. Buildings being constructed by Athena MMTK, which are situated near the collapsed building will also be inspected.
The President of the company Mutafakkir, Ali Muradov, who carried out the construction, and three other senior company officials have been arrested.
On 31 August, Azerbaijan's President issued a decree to strengthen sate control in the sphere of construction in Azerbaijan.
