Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / Despite all discontent by the opposition parties, the Azadlig opposition bloc would not change its proposal concerning the formation of elections commissions, Ali Karimli, the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), said to The Trend Agency on 2 October.
Azadlig bloc unites three opposition parties, which has developed a set of proposals regarding the changes and supplements on 20 issues and submitted it to the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. One of the issues envisaged to form election commissions from parties collected over 1% from the total number of votes at the latest parliamentary elections. It means election commission must unite representatives of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party and opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA), Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), National Unity Party of Azerbaijan (NUPA), Liberal-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (LDPA), Social Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA) and Musavat.
The head of the Central Executive Administration of the Musavat, Arif Hajili, said implementation of the proposal by Azadlig cannot be realized as the government will not agree on it. Musavat proposes to form the election commissions on parity bases.
Ali Karimli said the party would not change its proposal. "The government does not need somebody to express its position on this issue. If the Council of Europe and OSCE agree with the proposals made by Azadlig and take the results of the latest elections in consideration, the opposition parties should not contest against our proposals," Karimli said.
Representatives of the bloc will attend at the meeting dedicated to the discussions of the Election Code developed by the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe jointly with the Azerbaijani Government in Baku in November.
