Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / A range of names of Azerbaijani regions may be changed, MP Arif Rahimzadeh, the chairman of the permanent parliamentary commission on region issues, said.
"The issue concerning changes of names of some Azerbaijani regions has not been discussed, but may be included into the agenda," the chairman said.
The names of Ali Bayramli, Khanlar regions, as well as Narimanov and Azizbayov districts of Baku City may be changed.
There are bills on 'Territorial divisions' and 'Geographic names' in Azerbaijan.
It is necessary to appeal to the Toponymy commission of the Azerbaijani Parliament. Once the commission approves the change of the name of region the issue discusses by the permanent parliamentary commission on region issues. Later the issue discussed during the meeting of the Parliament.
Change of geographical names needs great funds, Rahimzadeh said.
