Opposition Will Achieve Nothing Making Unacceptable Proposals: Chairman of Azerbaijan Opposition Party

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The Chairman of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP), Sardar Jalaoglu, said that whilst making proposals regarding the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan, the opposition parties should take into consideration the interests of the Government.

The Government of Azerbaijan and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe will organize discussions in Baku with the participation of the opposition parties with regards to the improvement of the Electoral Code. The opposition parties are devising a project of proposals on amendments to the Code.

ADP and five other opposition parties prepared a project on amendments to the Electoral Code. This project has been sent to Azadlyg bloc combining three opposition parties. According to Jalaloglu, the consulting council of the opposition wants to coordinate its proposals with the Azadlyg bloc. "We proposed five variants of forming the election commissions. One of them is very near the proposal of the Azadlyg bloc," he said.

According to Jalaloglu, the work on the general proposals regarding the Electoral Code should not be radical, but acceptable proposals. He considers that the opposition cannot achieve progress because it makes unacceptable proposals.
