Nine Kyrgyz citizens accused and imprisoned for different crimes in China

Nine citizens of Kyrgyzstan have been accused and imprisoned for different crimes (predatory attack with murder, smuggling, drug trade and smuggling of saiga's horns) in People's Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry told Trend on Feb. 20.

According to the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, the death penalty was replaced with 19 years of imprisonment for one of Kyrgyz citizen, the death penalty was replaced with long terms of imprisonment for four citizens and two citizens were sentenced to life imprisonment.

As a result of efforts of the Kyrgyz Embassy in China, one Kyrgyz citizen was freed in 2008. Presently, the issue to pre-term release another Kyrgyz citizen is worked over.

The Ministry and the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Beijing together with concerned agencies of Kyrgyzstan conduct consistent work with China to reduce sentence of Kyrgyz citizens committed crimes on the territory of People's Republic of China.

Employees of the embassy visit imprisoned Kyrgyz citizens and try to render consultative-legal or other aid.

Relatives of most imprisoned citizens communicate with then via the embassy.

Presently, court instances of People's Republic of China consider criminal case with participation of three Kyrgyz citizens accused of premeditated group murder of two citizens of China. People's court of medium instance of Guandun province passed them death penalty sentence in June 2008.

The sentence was appealed in the Supreme People's Court of the province which presently considers the complaint, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.

The issue is controlled by management of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry and the Kyrgyz embassy to Beijing.
