Non-proliferation of nuclear weapons will be the main topic of talks between Nicolas Sarkozy and Foreign Minister of Iran.

The central theme of today's talks in Paris between French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Foreign Minister of Iran Manouchehr Mottaki will be the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, Pierre Regent, Press Secretary of the French President, told Trend by telephone.

Also, he said that discussions will be held on regional issues.

Mottaki arrived in France on June 3. After talks with French President, which are due to begin at 19:30 Moscow time, Mottaki is going to meet with Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.

The United States and other countries suspect Iran of developing nuclear weapons under the guise of the peaceful atom. UN Security Council adopted five resolutions and three times imposed sanctions on Iran, demanding Iran to stop uranium enrichment.

In early April, the "Six" proposed Iran to return to the negotiating table to discuss its nuclear program and to organize a meeting of European Union Council Secretary General Javier Solana, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council of Iran Saeed Jalili and the representatives of the "Six".

However, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Tehran does not intend to resume the dialogue before the presidential elections in the Islamic state, scheduled for June 12. In addition, Ahmadinejad said that Iran "will not discuss (its) nuclear program outside the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)."

Official representative of the French Foreign Ministry Eric Chevalier said on Tuesday that Paris is still awaiting Tehran's response to the proposal of "Six". Furthermore, he said that France and Iran consider the dialogue "useful."
