The Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TurkPA) will participate in the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan as an international observer, TurkPA Secretary General Ramil Hasanov said at a meeting this week with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

"TurkPA will also take part in Turkey's constitutional referendum as an international observer Sept. 12," Hasanov said.

He added that in late August a TurkPA delegation is expected to visit Kyrgyzstan.

"A meeting is scheduled with Kyrgyz President Rosa Otunbayeva," Hasanov said. "Talks will be held on TurkPA's participation as an international observer in the parliamentary elections in late October."

He stressed that a TurkPA delegation will also visit Turkmenistan in September.

"During the visit, the Turkmen leadership will study the assembly's annual activity," Hasanov said. "Turkmenistan will also be invited to join TurkPA."

He noted that the next TurkPA plenary session is scheduled for March 2011 in Astana. Three standing committees will be formed at the session, and a new management will be elected.

Hasanov also expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for their success in its current role as TurkPA president.

In turn, Mammadyarov thanked Hasanov, adding that "Azerbaijan will continue to support TurkPA inside the country and abroad through its diplomatic missions."
