Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec.20 / Trend E. Tariverdiyeva /

The recent interethnic clashes in Russia do not affect Azerbaijanis, Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin believes.

"The situation with interethnic clashes is uneasy, one can give different estimates of these events. I think that one should not rush to unilateral conclusions. For the Russian leadership it is a very serious signal and the authorities will very seriously deal with this problem," Dorokhin told journalists today.

Mass clashes took place in the center of Moscow Dec.11, as a result of which over 30 people were injured. The reason for the rally was the death of a Spartak fan in a scuffle with natives of the North Caucasus. Football fans and \nationalist groups took part in the demonstrations. They beat several persons of a non-Slavic appearance.

"Fortunately, this situation doesn't affect the Azerbaijanis, I'm not surprised, as your compatriots behave with dignity in the Russia," Dorokhin said.
