2,309 drug-related crimes were committed in Azerbaijan in 2006, a source in the State Committee for the Struggle with Drugs, Psychotropic Substances, and Precursors informed Trend. According to the data provided by the State Committee, 531 kg 133 grams of drugs were seized from illegal turnover, including heroin (49 kg), hashish (210 kg), marijuana (141 kg), psychotropic substances and medicals (26 ampoules), methadone (0,53 gram). In 2006, the law enforcement bodies prevented 775 facts on drug sale. 2,007 people were brought to criminal responsibility, including 82 foreigners. They are citizens of Georgia (32), Russia (9), Israel (2), as well as Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. 1,926 people out of 2,007 are not permanently employed. As a result of the measures taken, 401 tons of drug plants were seized.
