Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr Z. Safarov / The whole of the FIDE system is incorrect in terms of the world championship selection, Azerbaijani chess grand master Teymur Rajabov said to Trend.
In his opinion, a tournament should only include 20 to 30 grand masters.
"Let me give the example of recent competitions in Elista (RF) where 4 of the best grand masters in the FIDE rating were selected for the World Championship to be held Mexico. The same system should be applied in the World Cup, as when the championship includes 128 chess players with 5 of them, for example, being from Malaysia and 8 from Vietnam these outsiders have no chance to go past the first round," Rajabov stressed.
