Russian RTR-Planeta TV Channel May Cease Broadcasting in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The Chairman of the National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan, Nushiravan Maherrmli, reported to Trend that the decision to permit or not the broadcasting of Russian RTR-Planeta TV channel in the national frequencies of Azerbaijan will be made in October.

According to him, the Russian side has presented its conditions for only for the transmission of RTR-Planeta in Azerbaijan although Azerbaijan sent an agreement on mutual transmission.

"The Russian side has sent a one-sided agreement and it does not correspond to general principles. In addition, the agreement has been prepared on the base of the Russian legislation and it means that if any problems appear, they have to be resolved in Russia," Maharremli said.

According to him, the talks are continuing, but the situation will be made clear in October and a concluding decision will be made.

Maharremli said that Azerbaijan did not firstly cease the broadcasting of the Russian TV channels in the local frequencies. The Russian channels are not broadcasted in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Kazakhstan.
