Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 March / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / A new penal establishment will be constructed in the Ganja City of Azerbaijan, Nazim Alakbarov, Deputy Justice Minister and Chief of the Penitentiary Service, stated to journalists on 12 March.
Negotiations are being held with the authorities of Ganja to allocate a plot of land.
Alakbarov noted that consultations would be held with experts from the European Council during development of the project. The living standards in Prison 2 are not up to standard as the building was constructed in Ganja in 1910.
Penal establishments in Nakhchivan, of which construction has completed, will be put into commission in 2008.
Penal establishments being constructed in the cities of Lankaran and Sheki will be put into commission in 2009.
