(dpa) - The third A380 plane made by Airbus arrived in Singapore Wednesday after it was delivered to Singapore Airlines in France and is to be put in service to London, the carrier said.

SIA is the only airline in the world operating the double-decker craft, the world's largest passenger plane. The airline has firm orders for another 16 A380s and options on six more.

Daily flights between Singapore's Changi Airport and London's Heathrow Airport are to begin Tuesday, marking the first A380 commercial service to Europe, the carrier said.

Singapore Airlines' other two A380s, which seat 471 passengers, are flying routes daily to Sydney.

The inaugural A380 service from Singapore to Sydney started in October, and Singapore Airlines received its second superjumbo jet in January.
