Azerbaijani Accounting Chamber head Heydar Asadov received a World Bank Corporate and Public Sector Accountability Project (CAPSAP) delegation this week.

The delegation was headed by Project Manager Jan Teel.

The sides held talks on selecting consultants under the project, the chamber reported.

During the meeting, Teel spoke about the importance of accelerating CAPSAP activities and introduced a new WB official at the chamber, Leslie Kozhiman, who noted the importance of applying international experience to the project. He also discussed the need for close cooperation with the consultants selected to work on the project.

The sides also discussed concrete actions that should be implemented at this stage, but also mentioned the importance of strengthening measures to accelerate the implementation of the CAPSAP.

The project is funded by WB ($11 million), the Japanese government ($3 million), the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs ($2 million), and the Azerbaijani government ($8 million). The total project cost is $24 million. A loan agreement for the project was signed in September 2008.

Azerbaijan has already prepared 28 national standards for the commercial sector.
