The Georgian government intends to place the shares of two new hydropower plants on international stock exchanges.

Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri told journalists today that the new plants will be built at the expense of funds attracted through the placement of the stock.

According to the minister, an IPO will soon be held for one hydropower plant to be built in Svaneti. The plant will have a capacity of 600 megawatts and be built by Georgian Railways. The project cost is $500 million.

Khetaguri noted that the Energy Ministry has also developed a draft for another plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts. After finding a construction operator through a tender, construction will begin in 2011.
