Aeromexico, Mexico's largest airline, announced on July 25 that it will buy 100 planes from US aerospace giant Boeing in a deal worth 11 billion dollars.
Aeromexico said that this was the largest investment package in the history of Mexican commercial aviation.
The deal will include 90 model 737-8 MAX airliners and 10 of the 787-9 Dreamliner model, dpa reported.
"This is a fundamental step to consolidate Grupo Aeromexico's international leadership position and to press on with the speedy modernization of the group," CEO Andres Conesa said in the Aeromexico statement.
The order comes in addition to purchase of 10 Embraer 190 planes and 10 Boeing 737-8 NG models that the firm announced in 2011, as well as another nine Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners Aeromexico had already ordered.
The 19 Dreamliners are set to be delivered starting in mid-2013, while the Boeing 737-8 MAX planes are not expected before 2018.
Aeromexico carried 14 million passengers last year. It operates 600 flights per day to 45 destinations within Mexico and 32 abroad.
