Rich marble deposits discovered in Turkey

During a 10-month exploration, rich deposits of marble have been discovered in Turkey, estimated at about 900 million tons, the Sabah newspaper reported on Friday.

During a 10-month exploration, rich deposits of marble have been discovered in Turkey, estimated at about 900 million tons, the Sabah newspaper reported on Friday.

The main reserves of marble were found in the fields located in the basins of Erenler, Daakcha, Bashkey in the province of Bursa. The reserves of these fields are estimated at $105 billion.

The private sector will mainly be involved in development of the marble fields through tenders.

According to the newspaper, in 2012 exports of mineral raw materials from Turkey totalled $4.1 billion, of which $1.9 billion accounts for marble exports. Turkey plans to increase the export of marble to seven billion dollars by 2023.
