The EU-Azerbaijan aviation agreement will help to boost relations in the tourism sphere, said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov at a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Brussels Feb. 9.

“Currently, we work on an aviation agreement. We have already reached great success in the tourism sphere in Azerbaijan. However, this agreement will boost the development of tourism sector in the country,” said the minister.

Earlier, Head of the EU delegation to Azerbaijan Kestutis Jankauskas said that negotiations on the aviation agreement are almost complete.

He voiced hope that the agreement will be signed in January-February this year.

Creation of a common aviation area is an initiative of the European Commission and aims to open and integrate aviation markets. This will lead to new opportunities for consumers and operators, and, most importantly, to high standards in terms of flight safety as well as air traffic management.
