Kazakhstan exports record amount of wheat

Export of Kazakh wheat amounted to 3.3 million tons in 2017/18 MY (marketing year, September - March), which is 39 percent higher than the export rate in the previous MY, Kazakh media outlets reported.

The export of Kazakh wheat reached a record for the last seven years - from 2011/12 MY.

Kazakhstan’s wheat export in March 2018 amounted to 504,300 tons, which is 9 percent lower than in February 2018, but 68 percent more than in March 2017.

The leading importer of Kazakh wheat is Uzbekistan, which has increased its share to 43 percent. The largest consumers of Kazakh wheat are the countries of the Asian region - Tajikistan, Afghanistan and China. The share of the EU countries increased to 8 percent, Turkey - up to 7 percent.

Kazakhstan may reduce wheat production by 800,000 tons, to 14 million tons in the 2018/19 MY, due to the reduction of sown areas by 4.6 percent, according to FAS USDA (Foreign Agricultural Service of United States Department of Agriculture) forecast.

The export of Kazakh wheat in the new season is projected at 8 million tons.

The International Grain Council (IGC) estimated the production of cereals in Kazakhstan in 2018-19 MY at the level of 17.8 million tons.
