Trend:

A member of the Iran Chamber of Commerce said that more than 90 percent of export wagons to Turkmenistan contains cement and other goods such as chemicals and cosmetics are left without wagons at the border.

"Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the transit of trucks to Turkmenistan has been suspended and there is the only rail and sea communication between two countries,” A member of Iran Chamber of Commerce Ali Shariati said, Trend reports citing ILNA.

“There are now about 30 to 40 export wagons reserved for cement per day,” he said.

He went onto say that when the wagon is reserved for cargo, even if it stays at the border for one or two days, no other cargo can be carried in it.

Shariati added that if this continues, we will lose other markets.

“Iran wants to increase export, but its export portfolio should not be harmed,” he said. “Now our export basket is damaged and other goods are left at the border.”

"In this situation, exporters may lose the opportunity and this means a drop of 20 percent in export, and thus we lose the market for other goods."
