The Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (south-eastern Iran) plans to increase production of strategic and export-oriented goods, the Head of Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone Abdolrahim Kordi told Trend.

According to Kordi, Iran is currently implementing two major plans in the Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone in this regard.

The head added that one of these plans is on the production of petrochemical products. So, 20 million tons of petrochemical products will be produced in Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone per year.

“The second plan is on the production of steel products, and 10 million tons of steel products a year are estimated to be produced in this zone,” he said.

Thus, a total of 45-50 million tons of products will be produced annually in the Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone.

Kordi noted that the annual capacity of Chabahar port is currently 8.5 million tons. According to the plan, this figure should reach 85 million tons. The goal is to operate this port in accordance with international standards. If the cargo transportation capacity of the Chabahar port is increased, it will have a large share in global trade.

The director stressed that the countries of Central Asia and East Asia attach importance to mutual and long-term trade relations. In this regard, the Chabahar port can play a key role in cargo transportation between countries.

He noted the importance of the establishment of infrastructure in the region, including the construction of the railways.
