(autoinsidernews) - Mercedes' never brought its very limited-edition AMG Mercedes CLK-DTM, the street-legal version of Mercedes DTM (German Touring Car) racing series entry, to the U.S., but that could change, according to Mario Spitzner, AMG-Mercedes director of marketing & sales/branding, reports Trend.

The CLK-DTM was sold as a coupe and convertible, with 100 and 80 of each respectively. Now Spitzer, says the automaker would be willing to federalize the car and build a second run of the cars just for the U.S., if there were enough customers.

I get a lot of pressure from our best customers to bring it to the U.S., Spitzner said.

The CLK-DTM is powered by a 582-hp supercharged 5.5L V8 and suspension, brakes and bodywork from the company's German Touring Car racers. The CLK-DTM races to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds on its way up to an electronically-limited top speed of 200 mph.

We would maybe do a bigger series for the U.S., Spitzner said. Push us, and it may happen.

The only things that seem to be stopping them is that Mercedes wants to be sure there is enough demand. Lets hope that AMG Performance Studio's hot Black Series cars, which will offer close to the same performance for a lot less money, doesn't siphon off some of the demand.
