Turkey's demand for primary energy, particularly gas, will increase by 10 percent in 2020, General Manager of Turkish BOTAS Company, Hussein Saltuk Duzyol, said during his speech at the International Conference of Gas Infrastructure World Caspian-2009 on Sept.15.
According to Duzyol, Turkey's dependence on external gas supply is 98 percent and in 2008, its gas consumption amounted to 46.2 billion cubic meters.
At present, Turkey's dependence on Russia's gas supply is 62 percent and Azerbaijan - 12 percent, the general manager added.
It is planned to invest $2.5 billion in various areas of the country's energy sector during the following decades, Duzyol said.
According to Duzyol, a storage facility with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters is planned to be constructed in the Salt Lake region. The construction of the storage will be supported by the World Bank.
