Turkmenistan and Iran will signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the energy sector in Ashgabat, an official Turkmen source reported.
The document is expected to be signed in the framework of Iran's Petroleum Minister Masoud Mir-Kazzemi's Turkmenistan visit launched today. President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov received Mir-Kazzemi in the first half of the day.
Iran buys the Turkmen gas on two gas pipelines and expects to increase the supply volumes to 20 billion cubic meters of gas a year to ensure its border provinces with fuel.
Tehran has repeatedly stated on its interest in participating in the development of Turkmenistan's largest deposits of Southern Yoloten. Companies from South Korea and the UAE received contractor orders in the first stage.
Iran also proposes to use its territory as a transit for Turkmen gas supplies to Turkey and Europe.
