Kazakhstan to get huge revenues from transport sector

Kazakhstan plans to get up to $4 billion from container cargo transportation until 2020, Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Askar Mamin said at the government meeting on Nov. 1, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy company (Kazakh railways) reported.

"Transport and logistics sector is the driver of Kazakhstan’s economy that will ensure 1 percent of GDP growth by 2020," Mamin said.

The head of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Kanat Alpysbayev noted that in 2016 container transportation between Asia-Europe through Kazakhstan exceeded the level of 2011 by 100 times. He also noted that it is planned to increase container traffic by China-Europe, China-Caucasus-Turkey and Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran routes to 1.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units by 2020.

Alpysbayev also said that Kazakhstan creates favorable conditions and simplifies procedures for the development of transit cargo transportation. He also noted that a number of projects have been implemented in Kazakhstan in transport and logistics sphere - railway line Borzhakty-Ersai, Dry port on Kazakh-Chinese border and infrastructure of Khorgos - Eastern Gate special economic zone has been constructed, the port of Aktau has been expanded in the northern direction.

Moreover, he noted that by the yearend, the port of Kuryk and the railway line Almaty-Shu will be launched. Moreover a new international airport terminal and new railway station complex is under construction in Astana, Alpysbaev said.
