Turkmenistan-Iran gas dispute ended in Iran's favor?

The first stage of the trial at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) revolving around Iran's gas dispute with Turkmenistan has ended in favor of Iran, an official at the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum told Fars News Agency, Trend reports.

According to the official, Turkmenistan has to pay a compensation for suddenly cutting gas supply.

The ministry official added that following the cut of Turkmenistan’s gas supply to Iran in winter of 2017, Iran submitted relevant documents proving that Turkmenistan did not have the right to cut the gas supply to Iran to the ICJ over the last 2 years.

The court is investigating other aspects of the gas dispute between Iran and Turkmenistan.

On January 1, 2017, the National Iranian Gas Company stated that imports of gas from Turkmenistan were cut. A few days earlier, however, it was announced by the National Iranian Gas Company that a a 5-year contract for the import of gas from Turkmenistan was signed after talks held between Iranian and Turkmen officials.
