A 15-year contract has been signed between Iran's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) and Tehran Sewerage Company on the purchase of electricity from Tehran biogas producing plant in Tehran Province (northwestern Iran), Deputy Director of Tehran Sewerage Company Abbasali Mesrzadeh said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Energy of Iran.
Mesrzadeh noted that under the contract, about 500 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity produced by the Tehran biogas plant will be purchased at 10,500 rials (about 25 cent) per kilowatt.
He added that the power plant, which is a part of large Tehran's sewage infrastrucure, is located in Tehran's southern sewage filtration center.
The deputy director emphasized that Tehran's biogas producing plant is one of the largest sewage filtration stations in the world.
Mesrzadeh said that the plant produces 44 gigawatts of electricity per year, and this amount can supply electricity to 60,000 people.
According to the deputy director, this plant saves 400,000 cubic meters of gas (fossil fuel) per year.
Furthermore, the plant prevents emission of 150,000 tons of greenhouse gases a year, Mesrzadeh stressed.
