Digitalization is increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of Royal Dutch Shell’s processes by collecting quality data, turning this data into insights and insights into actions that improve the performance of the company’s assets, Suchismita Sanyal, GM Computational science at Shell, told Trend.
“Maximizing revenue while minimizing risks and costs requires accurate and consistent decision making. We are aggregating data from diverse sources, using AI, machine learning and machine vision to enable better decision making and deliver competitive advantage. In our operations, digitalization makes it possible to anticipate and autonomously manage conditions, to maintain optimized asset performance.
“We use digital to improve our core business today and to build the energy businesses of the future and improve the experience for our customers. Digital technologies support Shell becoming a world-class investment case by reducing costs and improving the productivity, reliability and performance of our activities. They also allow us to better serve our customers with new and more convenient services,” he said.
Sanyal highlighted some of the company’s AI projects:
Automatically processes seismic data
Identifies predictive maintenance needs enabling facilities to run more efficiently
Optimise production processes through ongoing real-time optimisation routines
Identifies anomalies within the facilities using machine vision
IoT sensors to detect the quality of lubricants
Providing better loyalty programs and offers for retail customers
Optimising the charging experience of Electric Mobility customers – making it cheaper and greener
