The cost of products sold in Azerbaijan’s retail chains amounted to 11.5 billion manat ($6.7 billion) from January through April 2020, which is 1.9 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports referring to Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee.
The turnover of products, beverages and tobacco products amounted to 6.2 billion manat ($3.6 billion), non-food products - 5.3 billion manat ($3.1 billion), while the cost of sold food products was 2.6 percent higher, and non-food products - 6.5 percent lower than from January through April 2019.

In the first 4 months of this year, 53.6 percent of the money spent by buyers (of final consumer goods) accounted for food products, 14 percent for textile products, clothes and footwear, 5.4 percent for furniture and electrical goods, 5.1 percent for the purchase of motor fuel, 1.8 percent for pharmaceutical and medical products, 0.7 percent for computers, telecommunications equipment and printing products.
Meanwhile, 19.4 percent of the total value accounted for other non-food products.
During the reporting period, 23.9 percent of consumer goods were sold by trading companies. Individual entrepreneurs accounted for 48.3 percent, markets and fairs - 27.8 percent of the specific share.
The retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 17.5 percent for enterprises, 1.2 percent for individual entrepreneurs, and 15.1 percent for markets and fairs from January through April 2020 compared to the same period of 2019.
The average monthly turnover of retail trade per capita from January through April of this year amounted to 289.1 manat ($170) or 1.5 manat (88 cents) more in nominal terms than in the same period of 2019.
The average monthly volume of the sold food products per person amounted to 154.9 manat ($91.1), and non-food products - 134.2 manat ($78.9) in 2019.
