India is prepared to consider an Azerbaijani proposal to take part in constructing the "East-West" transnational information superhighway, Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Debnet Shau told Trend today.

India is reviewing the proposal and determining its strategic outlook of the project.

"The superhighway will launch in Europe and run via Afghanistan and Pakistan," Shau said. "A branch could possibly be directed to India. This is a commercial project and Azerbaijan's main goal is to attract other countries to the initiative."

Azerbaijan's resolution to create the superhighway was adopted by the U.N. General Assembly in late 2009.

The project will connect 20 countries and play a vital role in regional development. Its major aim is to eliminate the informational "gap" between Western European and Pacific basin countries.
