Azerbaijan’s Teleradio Production Union is returning to the issue of building a digital radio (aka Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB) network, the Teleradio Production Union told Trend.
The test launch of DAB is expected after the necessary equipment is purchased.
“DAB is a single standard for digital broadcasting in European countries,” Teleradio noted. “We intend to start its test launch, which is included in our plans for 2019.”
The first test broadcasting of digital radio along with the FM broadcast in Azerbaijan was launched in 2012. The “Respublika” and “Ictimai Radio” stations were broadcast in the digital format during the year.
Following a survey, it turned out that less than 2 percent of Azerbaijan’s population used digital radio, and therefore the test broadcasting was suspended.
