The number of passengers transported via Urmia International Airport in the West Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) increased by 14 percent, during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, as was reflected in the statistics of Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company (IAC), Trend reports.
According to the statistics, 143,000 passengers were transported through the airport in 6 months. Meanwhile, in the same period last Iranian year, the figure stood at 104,000.
The Urmia International Airport has received 1,670 passenger planes within the mentioned period, which is an increase of 24 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. So, the figure amounted to 1,420 in the same period last Iranian year.
“In addition, about 1,140 tons of cargo were transported through Urmia International Airport over six months. Cargo transportation increased by 45 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year. Thus, 782 tons of cargo had been transported through this airport in the same period last Iranian year,” the statistics said.
Reportedly, Iran's Urmia International Airport is located on 343 hectares of land.
