Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 16

The snap presidential election will not affect the international image of Kazakhstan, Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.
A meeting of the Council of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan was held on February 14.
The delegates voted unanimously for the initiative of holding the snap presidential election. The council members said that a new mandate of national confidence must be given to President Nazarbayev. The initiative was supported by the Nur Otan ruling party on Monday.
"I think that this will have no effect on our international image," he said. "This is our own choice. This is a proposal of the council members. I think that the members of the parliament from this assembly will make appropriate proposals. This is the choice of our people. Therefore, foreign countries bear no relation to this."
He said that the foreign countries will support the choice of Kazakh people.
"If our people express the desire to hold election in the convenient term, then I think that this will have no impact on our relations with foreign countries," he said. "On the contrary, I think the situation will be more predictable. Of course, we will hold this election in accordance with all international standards."
"After making a final decision, if there is any, we will work directly with international organizations, primarily with the OSCE, because we will need to establish an open, transport process of monitoring the election by the international community," the minister said.
