ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 5. Kazakhstan, together with the Russian, Turkmen, Iranian and Indian sides, has developed a draft document on the development of the North-South corridor, which is currently at the approval stage, Trend reports.
Its implementation by 2027 will increase the throughput of the corridor to 10 million tons per year.
To develop the North-South corridor, the parties are working to improve infrastructure and terminal facilities, increase rolling stock, remove administrative barriers and create favorable conditions for carriers.
The total length of 8 automobile transit corridors is 13,200 km. Reconstruction is underway in certain areas, the completion of which is scheduled for 2030.
To reduce transport costs and reduce border crossing time, it is necessary to modernize 6 main checkpoints. This point is reflected in the Joint Action Plan and the Road Map for the development of checkpoints on the Kazakh-Russian border for 2023-2027.
The throughput of points will increase by 3 times, and the transit time of transit cargo will be reduced by 2 times.
The foundation of the North-South Transport Corridor was laid on the basis of the intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia, Iran and India on September 12, 2000. Azerbaijan joined this agreement in 2005.
In total, 13 countries have ratified the agreement (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Armenia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Sultanate of Oman, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Türkiye and Ukraine).
