BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, January 15. Consumer prices and tariffs in Kyrgyzstan increased by 7.3 percent as of the end of December 2023, compared to December 2022, Trend reports.
Data from Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee indicates that prices for non-food items rose by 12.2 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products by 11.3 percent, food products and non-alcoholic beverages by 3.4 percent, and tariffs for services provided to the population by 9.1 percent.
Over the past year, the highest price hikes were observed in rice (39.9 percent), fresh fruits (23 percent), confectionery (9 percent), fish (8.3 percent), pasta and other grain products (7.3 percent), baked goods (7.3 percent), non-alcoholic beverages (5.9 percent), dairy products (5.6 percent), bread (5.2 percent), cheese (4.9 percent), meat (1.4 percent), and flour (1.3 percent).
The increase in consumer prices and tariffs in 2023 was observed in all regions of the country. The maximum price increase (12.7 percent) was recorded in the Naryn region, primarily due to the highest increase in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (19.4 percent) compared to other regions.
At the same time, there was a 0.3 percent increase in consumer prices and tariffs country-wide in December 2023 compared to November 2023. This was propelled by a 0.5 percent rise in prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, a 0.3 percent increase in food products and non-alcoholic beverages and non-food items, and a 0.2 percent uptick in tariffs for services provided to the population.
