Summit of the CIS Heads of States will today open in Ashgabat, during which more than 20 documents will be discussed, CIS Executive Committee said.

Draft statement on the preparation for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 are planned to be discussed first. The text of draft statement was coordinated with representatives of states. The document emphasizes the importance of the upcoming event and focuses on the preparation of a series of commemorative events.

Turkmenistan is hosting this forum as a country chairing the CIS in 2012.

It is expected that Chairperson of the IPA CIS, Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko is expected to make a speech about activity of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) - CIS member states on strengthening integrated interaction.

In addition, it is planned to take a decision on declaring 2013 as the year of ecological culture and environmental protection in the CIS.

The draft documents relating to the field of security and countering new challenges and threats including an agreement on the formation of CIS council of heads of financial intelligence departments will be considered at the meeting.

The summit is also expected to approve the prospective development directions of the united air defence system of the CIS state members.

Separate unit of the agenda also includes personnel issues regarding approval of candidacy of the Economic Court of the CIS, head of the Anti-Terrorist Center of the CIS member states - and appointment of Chairman of the CIS Air Defense Coordinating Committee.

The meeting will also consider a number of other projects.
