Turkmenistan establishes national organization for barcoding

Turkmen Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union established a national organization for barcoding during a conference held in Ashgabat, the union said on April 1.

"A national organization for barcodes was established in Turkmenistan by the unanimous decision of the conference participants. A new national management board and audit commission were also elected," according to a message from the union.

Earlier it was reported that the system for printing of barcodes on all goods produced in Turkmenistan will be implemented by 2017.

Turkmenistan is at a transitional stage of its development. An article on the transition to market relations has recently appeared in the country's updated constitution.

Turkmenistan is the region's key natural gas supplier. Its gas importers are Russia, China and Iran.

Meanwhile, the country's leadership plans to diversify the economy. Oil and gas processing, textile industry, cotton processing industry and production of construction materials have been recently developed.

Turkmenistan conducted several reforms in monetary policy, namely, the denomination of the national currency, and the unification of exchange rates.

Transition to international accounting standards is scheduled for 2014.
