BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 5. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) held an online workship with Turkmenistan officials on the topic of mapping saline lands in the country, Trend reports with reference to the Business Turkmenistan website.
The workshop was organized within the framework of the "Integrated Natural Resources Management in Drought-prone and Salt-affected Agricultural Production Systems in Central Asia and Turkey (CACILM-2)" project, jointly with the Global Soil Partnership.
It was attended by more than 40 representatives of state organizations and departments of Turkmenistan, as well as local government bodies and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
The purpose of the seminar is to familiarize its participants with the methods of mapping saline lands using GIS technologies (Geographic Information Systems).
The participants of the event, with the help of specialists from the Global Soil Partnership, learned about the introduction of modern methods and remote sensing to assess soil salinity in real time.
Turkmenistan successfully continues implementation of the CACILM-2 regional project, during which activities are being carried out aimed at promoting and using advanced methods and technologies for sustainable management of land and water resources.
